New year, new news

I’ve been quiet here for a bit, but I’ve been working on some projects, and hopefully will be ready to do a “real” launch of this site and post real, regular, significant updates.

Currently the big project is overhauling my writing and worldbuilding notes, and this is a process. I’d been using a Windows-only wiki software to keep track of all my TTRPG notes, and in the time I’ve written four whole novels, I’ve only touched/updated those notes to run D&D games. So, here is what I’m doing with those old notes now:

  1. Migrate all existing notes into new software (Obsidian) that will let me see and edit notes across all my devices, instead of taking notes on my phone as I think of them in a giant unsorted block and trying to remember to refer back to them later. This step is COMPLETE! even though it was very hard not to make modifications as I was copy/pasting.
  2. Re-sort, re-format, re-link all those notes. I couldn’t get an export/import to work, so in step 1 I had to manually copy/paste every single page and file – which means that step 2 is rebuilding all the incompatible lost formatting and inter-page links. This is IN PROGRESS, going well – I’ve linked out all my locations and landmarks, now working on characters.
  3. Actual notes updates. A lot has changed since I first wrote down a lot of this stuff two or four or six or eight years ago. This is gonna be a big step – I’ve written a lot into my novels that’s floating around in my head but not committed into my notes, and I don’t want to re-read all my novels every time I need to confirm a minor fact.
  4. Write more. Once all the notes are updated, I’ll be doing all my writing in the new app, which will allow me to easily refer to my notes at any time, and even link the fiction I’m writing directly to relevant sections of notes.

To expand on step 4, I have quite a few projects on the go, almost all in the same setting but at different places and times.

  • Three novels (a trilogy) are complete enough for me to be happy and overall finished with them, though I’m sure I’ll be going back to tinker with small points of worldbuilding and consistency until I figure out/decide on publishing.
  • One novel, a western-ish fantasy-ish, is a complete but very rough draft that needs a lot of work.
  • Four novels are started and in early but good progress:
    • early world epic spanning 1500 years and many generations of related characters
    • a fun standalone battle of the bands, but actual battles, with magic and explosions
    • another longer epic, maybe more of a collection of shorts, about the people involved in and the long-term impact of a sinister game.
    • an unrelated novel in “our world” about dinosaurs showing up in a rural town, kind of a Jurassic World Dominion hate fic because I loved a lot of the ideas the movie brought up and completely failed to address in any way
  • Several outlines of varying detail for additional stories in the same universe, including a prequel to the trilogy, a disaster story, and the last story in that universe.
  • I also plan to get back into more frequent micro-stories that may or may not become canon incorporated into my lore or longer projects.

Other goals for the year include finishing up the website with graphics, and opening a Patreon for early access and commenting on in-progress work and also maybe some 18+ work I’ve been considering and tinkering with.

That’s all for now. Not sure how many people are looking at this space at this point in time, but if you are, keep an eye on it for more news.
